
AQU students’ study on Palestinian patients with Thalassemia published in Frontiers in Medicine
Frontiers in Medicine published a study on Palestinian patients with Thalassemia that was conducted by undergraduate students in the program of Medical Laboratory at Al-Quds University.
Entitled “Health Status of Patients with β-thalassemia in the West Bank”, the study was co-authored by Reem Dweik, Tamara Abu Mohr, Isra’ Adyabi, Salam Wararsneh, Shatha Abdeen, and it was supervised by Dr. Rania Abu Seir.

Qualitative Research: Getting Started
The Deanship of Scientific Research and the College of Public Health organized a valuable workshop about Qualitative Research, that aimed to encourage participants to consider the qualitative designs in their prospective research and to familiarize participants with common qualitative research designs, methods, tools, and analysis plans.

Title: Understanding Biostatics: A Lecture organized by MRC and PMSA
Medical Research Club - Al-Quds University(MRC) and PMSA-Jerusalem organized a lecture by Dr. Elham Kateeb, the Dean of Scientific Research at AQU, aimed to increase students’ understanding of statistical tests in the biomedical literature on Monday December 5th. This lecture was part of a full program supports students research basics understanding organized by MRC and PMSA.

AQU Organizes a Lecture about Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis
Dr. Anan Eshtaya, AQU alumnus and now a clinician and an academician at the neurosurgery department at St. George’s Hospital, University of London, and Dr. Abelhakim Eidah, associate professor of statistics at Al-Quds university, presented a valuable lecture about how to conduct a systematic review and a meta-analysis.

Al-Quds University Students Publish the results of their Research Work at a Q1 journal
Dental and Medical students in the Al-Quds Medical Research Association (AMRA) published on November 25th, 2021, their first article about the plethora of COVID-19 misinformation in a national sample of Palestinian university students.

AQU Dental Students Present at a Global Environmental Event
Al-Quds University dental students presented on November 3rd, 2021, at the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP26 satellite event their final project on "Positioning action for oral health in UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development"! This project was part of the Global Oral Health module organized by the Charite University and Oral Health Research and Promotion Unit at AQU. AQU dental students discussed from their perspective the priority rank of the seventeen goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development agenda and how they may relate to oral health.

A new study by AQU researchers about attitudes and practices among men in the Gaza Strip related to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Child-rearing
Researchers Nadia Al Bayoumi, Riyad Diab and Bassam Abu Hamad conducted a mixed method study that investigates knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) among Palestinian men and male youth on SRHR and child-rearing among with a total of 952 adults and 476 adolescents. This study aims to inform future policies and programming conducted.

The Deanship of Scientific Research organizes a lecture about healthcare provision in East Jerusalem
On Sunday October 3rd, the Deanship of Scientific Research organized a lecture about health indicators and health services in East Jerusalem area presented by Dr. Motasem Hamadan and Dr. Asma Imam. The lecture discussed results of a research study conducted recently in the East Jerusalem area. The results described the healthcare services, the infrastructure and healthcare workforce available to the Jerusalemites. One of the striking results of this study is the lack of adequately trained professionals in mental health. The presenters offered several recommendations to support the Palestinian healthcare institutions in the East Jerusalem area.

Al-Quds University Dean of Scientific Research Participates in an International Panel about Refugees Oral Health
On Thursday, September 30th, Dr. Elham Kateeb the Dean of Scientific research participated as a panelist in a webinar about Refugee Oral Health. This webinar was organized by the International Dental Federation’s Public Health Committee via Oral Health Campus Continuing Education platform. Panelists from academia, internal refugee organizations and charities working on the ground discussed ways to provide better access to dental care in this vulnerable population.

A recent work by an AQU researcher made it to the cover of Nature Aging Journal
On Sep 14th, 2021, Sundus Shalabi, at al. published a new study in the journal of Nature Aging entitled “Evidence for accelerated aging in mammary epithelia of women carrying germline BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations”. The article aimed to study whether aging phenotypes in mammary epithelia such as loss of lineage fidelity and differentiation defects are related to cancer susceptibility in general. The results of this study demonstrated that genetic high-risk mammary epithelial cells exhibit features of accelerated aging, such as the loss of cell-lineage markers, differentiation defects, and transcriptome-wide enrichment for genes related to aging and inflammation.

The Deanship of Scientific Research represented by the Dean Dr. Elham Kateeb and students from AQU Student Research Clubs (SRC) presented their work at the 3rd IMET PAL 2000 clinical research conference on September 4th.

AQU presents three research papers in the International Association of Dental Research (IADR 2021)
AQU researchers presented three research papers in the most important dental research conference worldwide. Two papers were presented by student groups from the Dental Research Club, the first one titled “Beyond the First Wave: Consequences of COVID-19 Lockdown on Dental Students’ Mental Health” where students, Raghad Saleh, Ayah Dweik and Mayar Danadneh, assessed dental students' mental Health in times of COVID 19 lockdown. The second paper titled “Dental Health Behaviors Between Dental Students”, where students, Mayar Dandneh, Ruba Nairoukh and Raghad Saleh, described dental health behaviors between dental students regarding the use of dental floss.
