Al-Quds University holds Palestinian-Romanian Medical Congress, signs cooperation agreements with participating Romanian institutions

JERUSALEM | In collaboration with the Association of Palestinian Doctors and Pharmacists in Romania and the Palestinian Romanian Friendship Association, Al-Quds University recently held the Palestinian Romanian Medical Congress.

Held under the patronage of His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine, the first of its kind Palestinian-Romanian medical conference in Jerusalem aimed to exchange experiences and the latest in the medical field, to explore prospects of cooperation as well.

Al-Quds University President Professor Imad Abu Kiskek opened the conference in the attendance of Dr. Faisal Ankari, member of PLO Executive Committee, Dr. Ahmad Al-Tibi, Head of the Arab Joint List, Mr. CatalinTerlea, the Romanian Representative to Palestine, Mr. Hashim Abu Lafi, President of the Palestinian-Romanian Friendship Association, and Dr. Nabeel Mubarak, President of the Association of Palestinian Doctors and Pharmacists in Romania.  A host of Palestinian and Romanian doctors and Al-Quds University faculty and students were also in attendance.

 Abu Kishek stressed the importance of holding the conference at the first and only Arab university in Jerusalem, “the eternal capital of Palestine and the holy city for both Muslims and Christians that has a deep history and rich cultural heritage”.

"Al Quds University will remain a great academic edifice distinguished for its multidisciplinary colleges that lead quality academic education and training, and carry out pioneering scientific research,” added Abu Kishek who emphasized the university’s big role in safeguarding Jerusalem and supporting Jerusalemites.

Al-Quds University president concluded that the Palestinian-Romanian Medical Congress is proof of the university’s unique scientific achievements that qualify it to compete internationally in the various fields.

Representing President Mahmoud Abbas, Dr. Faisal Arnaki conveyed the greetings and the expressions of gratitude of His Excellency the President of the State of Palestine for holding the conference at Al-Quds University, hailing the university’s big role in boosting medical knowledge in Palestine and providing the different medical sectors with highly-qualified specialists and health personnel. He also praised the Republic of Romania for the key role it plays in supporting the Palestinian national rights and in consolidating the deep ties between both countries.

Dr. Ahamd Tibi pointed to the various joint campaigns undertaken by both countries, commending Romania on its subsistent efforts to provide Palestinians with the necessary medical experiences and aids.

Impressed by “fabulous” Al-Quds University, Mr. CatalinTerlea highly praised the university’s medical colleges for the great contributions they have been making. The Romanian official also spoke highly of the medical experiences and ethics both countries share, highlighting, in particular, the present joint cooperation between AQU and its Romanian counterparts “which provides the markets of both countries with competent doctors and pharmacists”.

The event featured several scientific sessions which presented papers on a range of key biomedical themes such as the latest innovations pertaining to chronic kidney diseases, Gemmotherapy in health research, the crucial role of medical ethics in medical education and practice, modern trends in medical education, rare Small Bowel tumors, the application of Laser Therapies in Dentistry, Health Care and Education, and the impact of Antimicrobial Stewardship program on hospitalized patients at intensive care units.

 The joint medical conference also saw the signing of cooperation agreements between Al-Quds University and the Asociata Medicilor si Farmacistilor Palestinieni di Romania and the “Vasile Goldis” Western University Arad. The pacts provide for promoting academic and research exchanges, developing joint research projects, stimulating and consolidating reciprocal exchanges of information, documents, scientific publications, and experiences between both countries, and cooperating in the organization of international conferences, seminars, symposia, courses, and summer schools of mutual interest to the parties.
