Distinguished scholar from University of Geneva visits AQU to have a closer look at its Neuroscience Initiative

JERUSALEM | In a visit to have a closer look at the achievements of the Palestinian Neuroscience Initiative (PNI), Professor Julie Frank, a distinguished scholar of Psycholinguistics from the University of Geneva, met with Al-Quds University President Professor Imad Abu Kishek on Wednesday, November 7th.

Professor Abu Keshk briefed the visiting scholar on the advanced academic and research achievements made by Al-Quds University, emphasizing that the university always strives to develop cooperation ties with both national and international universities within its strategy of accommodating global scientific experiences and increasing academic and research exchanges.

Highlighting the significant achievements made by the PNI, Abu Kishek pointed out that “the Palestinian Neuroscience Initiative seeks to find efficient solutions to the various challenges facing the Palestinian society and to help establish a solid infrastructure for neuroscience researches in Palestine”. He expressed his outlooks for utilizing the research experiences of Dr. Frank and her team, for expanding joint cooperation in the near future as well.

Dr. Frank expressed her enthusiasm for the research work of the Palestinian Neuroscience Initiative, suggesting broadening cooperation with Al-Quds University to accomplish new scientific researches and launch new research exchanges.
In the on-campus public lecture which was attended by a host of students, Dr. Julie Frank highlighted “the links between language acquisition and the work of human memory”.

The Palestinian Neuroscience Initiative (PNI) was established in 2009 at Al-Quds University as a nucleus for a future Palestinian Neuroscience Institute. It encompasses research and educational programs in cognitive neuroscience, molecular neuroscience, neurogenetics, neuropharmacology and neuropsychiatry.

The PNI aims to build a solid infrastructure for neuroscience research in Palestine, to augment research training for a new generation of Palestinian students and researchers in cooperation with elite institutions worldwide, to conduct research to understand locally-specific characteristics of neurological and psychiatric disorders in Palestine, and to raise public awareness of psychiatric and neurological disorders among Palestinians.
