University of Notre Dame Delegation hails AQU research achievements

JERUSALEM | Within an initiative for developing the research capabilities at Palestinian universities, a delegation from the of University of Notre Dame, USA, recently visited Al-Quds University to have a closer look at its achievements in the area of scientific research and to pursue a relevant training program.

The University of Norte Dame Initiative aims to boost the research proficiency of Palestinian researchers through linking academic education with the needs of the private sector based on a year-long training program in parallel with conducting joint researches.

Involved in the steering committee of the initiative, Dean of Scientific research at Al-Quds University Dr. Elham Khatib provided an update about the advances in thearea of scientific research the university has seen. She touched on the functions of specialized research committees formed by the university to contribute with the highest standards of quality to scientific research globally.

In this respect, Dr. Khatib said "the university strives to engage its students in research production and enable its scholars to utilize modern laboratory equipment and resources". Drawing on the wide array of research partnerships the university has with several international universities, Khatib called on researchers from both sides to expand cooperation in joint research.

Making reference to a training course organized earlier on the ethics of scientific research, Dr. Khatib stated that Al-Quds University was the first among Palestinian institutes to create a research ethics committee. She noted that the next part of the training will cover research writing methods and research projects management.

During their tour of the university's colleges, research centers, and laboratories, the University of Notre Dame delegation expressed their admiration for the achievements made Al-Quds University, hailing in particular its set of research ethics and the applicability of its researches to the Palestinian context.

Al-Quds University is a research intensive university based in Jerusalem. Palestine.  Established in the late 1970s, Al-Quds remains the only Arab university in the city of Jerusalem. It currently offers 105 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, taught through its fifteen degree-granting faculties and institutes.
