Prominent Palestinian mathematician hosted by Al-Quds University

Professor Titi’s on campus lecture addresses strategies of Scientific Research

JERUSALEM | Al-Quds University hosted the Palestinian mathematician Professor Idris Titi, one of the most prominent Arab scientists in the field of Applied Mathematics, in a scientific lecture titled "Strategies for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research".

Held in the presence of Executive Vice-President Dr. Hassan Dweik, and attended by a number of students and faculty, Professor Titi’s lecture was organized by Al-Quds University’s Department of Mathematics and Office of the Deanship of Scientific Research. “The lecture highlighted the role of graduate studies and scientific research in solving many of the problems different societies face,” said Dean of Scientific Research, Dr. Elham khatib.
Head of the Department of Mathematics at Al-Quds University, Dr. Ibrahim Gharooz, praised the great achievements and contributions Professor Titi has made in world Mathematics, scientific research in general, pointing out that the university encourages scientific researches that apply to the unique Palestinian situation and try to meet the demands of Palestinian community.

In the ceremony which saw the rewarding of four of the university’s outstanding Mathematics students by Professor Titi, the visiting scholar thanked Al-Quds University for allowing him the opportunity to use its platform to address up-to-date scientific research issues and strategies. He called upon the students to apply challenging research methods and focus on practical researches that prioritize quality rather than quantity.

Professor Idris Titi is a distinguished scholar in Applied Mathematics who has been publishing in leading international journals. An award laureate, he has received numerous prizes including the Humboldt Research Award for top American scientists from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany and the Industrial and Applied Mathematics Association Prize for Best Research in Partial Differential Equations for the year 2009. He also received the Einstein-Visiting-Fellow Award from the Einstein Foundation, Berlin, for the years 2018-2020.

Al-Quds University leads in the field of scientific research. Its projects in this area have so far attracted researchers from all over the world. The university was the first in the region to develop and create a number of research initiatives and centers, such as the Palestinian Neuroscience Initiative and the Nanotechnology Center. The pioneering research achievements of its researchers in the fields of medicine, natural sciences, and humanities, have enabled it to achieve advanced positions according to institutions specialized in international academic classifications such as QS.
