Jerusalem| Al-Quds University honored the Palestinian scientist Prof. Idris Titi, a professor of applied mathematics at Texas A & M University, during a ceremony held by the Department of Mathematics in recognition of his distinguished scientific achievements.
The Executive Vice President of the University, Dr. Hasan Dweik praised the continuous achievements of the scientist, where he devoted his life to science and scientific research, stressing that the university pays great attention to scientific research, and appreciates the science and scientists, therefore it decided to honor Professor Idris Titi. "It is a great honor for us at Al Quds University to have him today among us to benefit from his valuable expertise and knowledge in mathematics and related fields," Dr. Dweik said.
Moreover, Professor Yusef Zahayqa from the Mathematics department said that "We are delighted to have dr. Titi among us, and it is a great honor for us to honor a world of Palestinian scholars who devoted most of their lives to scientific research, moving among the leading universities and research institutions.” And he presented the most important achievements and researches of the professor which he obtained.
In addition, he thanked Dr. Idris for the 10,000$ scholarship he gave to a number of students.
Professor Al-Titi gave a lecture to students and university professors about the role of mathematics in the progress and development of societies. He focused specifically on the mathematics of the hovercraft movement. He spoke about the mathematics question, which gives him a prize of one million dollars for finding a solution to mathematical equations related to this very important nonlinear phenomenon.
Professor Titi praised the idea of honoring scientists in various fields, which was initiated by Dr. Abdul Hakim Aida from the Department of Mathematics, and thanked the University for honoring and hosting him to give a scientific lecture.
Professor Idris Titi is a distinguished scientist in applied mathematics. He has received numerous awards including the Humboldt Research Award for senior American scientists from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics Award for best research in partial differential equations in 2009 and an Einstein-visiting fellow award from the Einstein Foundation in Germany for the years 2018-2020.
