Enucleation for a Giant Esophageal Leiomyoma in a Pediatric Patient with Preservation of the Native Esophagus. Case Report and Review of the Literature

On October 28th 2021, Reem Alawna, Alaaeddin Hliqawi and Lana Hamad published a new study in Ecronicon titled Enucleation for a Giant Esophageal Leiomyoma in a Pediatric Patient with Preservation of the Native Esophagus. Case Report and Review of the Literature.

The article aimed to highlight the preservation of the esophagus in the presented leiomyoma case, as well as provide a review of available literature.

The results of this study demonstrated that despite esophagectomy usually being performed in this size of leiomyoma. In our case, although the tumor occupied more than 2/3rd of the esophagus, the native esophagus was preserved successfully. Surgeons should always try their best to avoid esophagectomy in this kind of tumor, especially in this pediatric age group.
