Computational Chemistry and Drug Design Laboratory

Location: Health Complex Building (Sc12213) / Faculty of Pharmacy

Introduction:

The Computational Chemistry and Drug Design Laboratory was established in 2005 with a generous donation from the German Research Foundation, where an agreement was signed between the Al-Quds University and the Freie University in Berlin / Germany. The Freie University provided the necessary computers, servers, advanced software’s, books…  etc.

Equipment:

  • Computers
  • advanced software’s,

Procedures:

The Computational Chemistry and Drug Design Laboratory is also involved in research related to the design of new drugs using computers. In this framework, more than ten master's thesis were supervised. Most of these thesis related to the study of the relationship between pharmacological activity of drug like compounds and structure in three dimensions. These thesis were concentrated on large groups of drugs acting on specific receptors. Specialized software’s have been used in this field, and the results of this research have been used in the design of new drugs.

It should be noted that all master students under the supervision of Prof. Omar Deeb has been able to publish their research in international scientific journals with very good impact factor. These students are from the graduate program in pharmacy as well as from the graduate program of chemistry and chemical technology.
