A new research Training Funding Opportunity at AQU in collaboration with MIT (PalUROP Project)

This project aims to contribute to the educational experience of students in Palestine, by connecting them and their local mentors with international research projects and facilitating collaborations. It is not set up to arrange student travel outside of Palestine.

This program is modeled on a system in use at MIT and many other US institutions. In its current form, the program is funded by small grants from the Higher Education directorate of MIT’s Jameel World Education Lab: https://jwel.mit.edu/j-wel-higher-education and from another foundation.

Each project must involve a faculty member and at least one student (undergraduate or master’s degree, selected by the Palestinian faculty lead) from a Palestinian university and a faculty member from elsewhere (not necessarily MIT or US). Ideally there should be student participation from abroad as well.

Projects will be approved by the PalUROP Project Committee. Students will be approved on a semester basis but may be extended as appropriate. Deadlines will be proposed but now in this initial phase they will be waived.

Student participants may request compensation for their work on the project. The rate of pay is approximately USD 6/hour up to a maximum of USD1000 for a semester. Students will invoice the lead faculty by submitting time sheets, which will be honored through an agreement with Birzeit University.
