Al-Quds University Places Third in the Youth Exceptional Speakers (YES) International Symposium 2022

Israa’ Baker, a dental student, places third in the Youth Exceptional Speakers (YES) Symposium for the year 2022 that was held as part of Makkah International Dental Conference and Exhibition at Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah, Saudi Arabia at the end of October. She was among the six winners of the first round of 26 competitors from different Arab countries.

Baker has represented al-Quds University, the only Palestinian university to participate in the conference, presenting her paper under the title of “Information Sources Impact on COVID-19 related Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) Among University Students: A Nation-wide Cross-sectional Study” which was supervised by Dr. Elham Kateeb. The paper was held in high regard by the attendees and the committee members due to the speaker’s good presentation of key points and the scientific quality of the research itself.

In turn, Dr. Elham Kateeb is proud of this achievement which confirms the University’s endeavor to cultivate a leading rich research environment for its students and faculty members noting that this is the second time the University has participated in this symposium. In the second iteration of this symposium, senior dental students are required to present a clinical case or research in which they have participated in.

On the other hand, Baker feels honored to have represented al-Quds university and Palestine in an international academic symposium that included participants from various Arab countries. Additionally, she extends her gratitude to the Deanship of Scientific Research for continuously supporting researchers, students, and staff at the university.

The research paper which Baker is a lead author to in collaboration with a group of her colleagues from the Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Medicine and was submitted to the YES Symposium has been published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. Furthermore, it has also won the al-Quds University’s Student Conference Award and the Youth Researchers Conference Award in Qatar.
